Ammonia emissions remain EU weak spot in pollution targets, EEA says

( June 27, 2025, 11:25 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Key air pollutant emissions across most EU countries are continuing to fall, the European Environment Agency reported today. Data from 2023 shows that the biggest gains were seen in cutting sulfur dioxide, but ammonia — largely from agriculture — remains the toughest challenge. In 2023, 19 countries met their targets for the decade for all five key pollutants: nitrogen oxides, non-methane volatile organic compounds, ammonia, sulfur dioxide, and fine particulate matter. Eight countries failed to do so for at least one of the five — most commonly ammonia — the EEA's assessment found.Press release follows.
