UK mobile operators face stricter obligations to tackle scam messages

( October 29, 2025, 10:12 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: UK telecom providers and aggregators will need to take further action to stop scammers from sending texts under plans unveiled by regulator Ofcom on Wednesday. The rules, currently under consultation, would force companies to set volume limits for pay-as-you-go SIM cards, block numbers used by scammers and scam messages in transit, conduct due diligence checks and introduce incident management processes. The watchdog is taking feedback on the new rules until Jan. 28 and plans to publish final decisions by next summer.Statement follows. Consultation documents attached....
