US drawback claims boom despite complex tariff regime

US Customs and Border Protection offers drawback claims for imported goods that are re-exported or added to a good that is later exported, allowing for a refund of up to 99 percent on eligible merchandise. The past decade of shifting tariffs spanning more and more industries has boosted the use of this program as a secure way to get money back.
