A federal judge on Monday refused to breathe new life into a proposed ski resort outside Missoula, Montana, finding no fault with the U.S. Forest Service's decision to deny the resort developer a permit to operate in a pair of national forests.

The U.S. Forest Service asked a Montana federal judge Monday to toss a complaint brought by two local organizations over the agency's rejection of their proposal for a commercial ski resort in two national forests, saying plans for the resort conflicted with the agency's need to protect the area.
