Ark. Gov. Extends Tax Deadlines In Response To Coronavirus

Arkansas individuals, businesses and estates received an automatic income tax filing extension from April 15 to July 15 under an executive order recently issued by the governor in response to the economic impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The order, signed Monday and issued Wednesday by Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson, conformed the state to recent federal action that extended the income tax filing deadline from April 15 to July 15 as relief from the effects of the new coronavirus and public health measures taken in response to the virus.

Hutchinson's order provides the extension for corporate, estate, partnership and composite returns, and waives the requirement to file written requests for extensions for return deadlines.

In a separate action, Hutchinson convened the state Legislature in a special session Thursday to provide further relief, including tax extensions, declaring an emergency, transferring funds to a newly-created rainy day fund for COVID-19, the respiratory illness caused by the virus, and confirming the governor's appointees.

The legislation introduced by legislative leaders did not directly include tax relief measures.
