An Alabama metal finishing company lacks standing under the Investment Company Act of 1940 to bring suit over $300 million in allegedly excessive fees charged by Principal Management Corp., an Iowa federal judge ruled Wednesday, awarding summary judgment to the investment adviser.

An Iowa federal judge on Wednesday declined to dismiss a suit alleging investment managers Principal Management Corp. and Principal Global Investors LLC pocketed too much on fees they charged a retirement plan investing in certain mutual funds, saying the plaintiff had standing and sufficiently pled its suit.
