A driver who brought a wage-and-hour putative class action against Atlas Van Lines alleging the company improperly categorized him and others as contractors asked a California federal judge on Monday for preliminary approval of a settlement that would require the company to pay $1.48 million to end claims.

Atlas Van Lines escaped a wage-and-hour suit Wednesday when a California federal judge found that the proposed class of California drivers hadn't provided enough facts to back up their "skeletal" claims that the moving company violated the state's labor laws.
