A New Jersey federal judge approved a $305,000 deal Tuesday between United Airlines and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to ground a suit alleging the airline required a Buddhist pilot to attend monotheistic Alcoholics Anonymous meetings to get clearance to fly.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission slapped United Airlines with a religious discrimination suit in New Jersey federal court Monday, alleging the airline unlawfully required a Buddhist pilot to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings even though the "monotheistic" content contradicted his religious beliefs.
