Two packaging companies will pay $385,000 to end a U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission suit alleging they ignored repeated harassment of Black workers that included racial slurs and slashed tires, according to a California federal court filing.

A pair of packaging suppliers did nothing to stop rampant racism Black employees faced at a Sacramento County, California, plant, including being called racial slurs and having nooses dangled in their faces, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said in a lawsuit filed Tuesday.
