An Albertsons subsidiary has agreed to pay just under $1.1 million to settle employees' proposed class action claiming the grocery store chain collected and stored their voiceprints without first securing their permission, according to a motion for preliminary approval of the deal filed Monday in Illinois federal court.

An Illinois federal judge Wednesday refused to dismiss or send to arbitration a proposed class action accusing an Albertsons subsidiary of collecting and storing employees' voiceprints without securing the informed permission required under Illinois' biometric privacy law.
