The National Labor Relations Board and Machinists locals asked the D.C. Circuit to remand a case involving the locals, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, and a California terminal operator on Tuesday, arguing the NLRB should get another chance to explain why its ruling in the case seemed to contradict board precedent.

The D.C. Circuit on Friday vacated a National Labor Relations Board decision that held an Oakland port terminal operator violated federal labor law by giving work to a longshore workers' union, saying the board was too dismissive of the company's understanding of a labor contract it signed.
