UK Launches Investigation Of Ryanair-Aer Lingus Deal

Law360, New York (October 29, 2010, 1:52 PM EDT) -- The U.K.'s competition authority began an investigation Friday into Ryanair Holdings PLC's purchase of a minority stake in Aer Lingus Group PLC, even though the transaction happened four years ago.

The U.K.'s Office of Fair Trading said one of the things it would have to look at is whether it even has the legal authority to begin a competition investigation so far after the transaction. The Enterprise Act of 2002 demands that the OFT normally begin investigations within four months of a deal.
