Ultra Petroleum Hit With CAA Suit Over Marcellus Wells

Law360, New York (July 21, 2011, 6:39 PM EDT) -- A Pennsylvania environmental group on Thursday sued a unit of Ultra Petroleum Corp. under the Clean Air Act, accusing the natural gas company of operating some of its Marcellus Shale exploration facilities without the necessary permits.

According to PennFuture's suit, Ultra Resources Inc. has a network of wells, pipelines and compressor stations in Tioga and Potter counties. PennFuture argues that the equipment is all part of a single system, which Ultra calls the Marshlands Play, and therefore needs a permit under Pennsylvania's New Source Review law....
