Union Can't Kill Sodexo's RICO Extortion Suit

Law360, New York (July 27, 2011, 8:18 PM EDT) -- A Virginia federal judge on Tuesday blocked an attempt by the Service Employees International Union to scuttle a suit brought by food services company Sodexo Inc. alleging the labor union engaged in illegal tactics in its attempts to recruit Sodexo employees.

In a one-page order, U.S. District Judge Claude M. Hilton denied SEIU's motion to dismiss Sodexo's suit, which alleges the union violated the Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act by attempting to extort company management into allowing its more than 80,000 hourly employees to unionize....
