Enforcement Of New Ala. Immigration Law Blocked

Law360, New York (August 29, 2011, 8:04 PM EDT) -- An Alabama federal judge overseeing challenges to the state's recently passed immigration law from the federal government and other organizations on Monday temporarily barred enforcement of the law, which imposes harsh penalties on illegal immigrants and companies that hire them.

U.S. District Judge Sharon Lovelace Blackburn issued a temporary injunction of the law, which was set to take effect on Sept. 1, in a brief order that declined to rule on the merits of the plaintiffs' motions for the injunction.
