BLM Slashes Available Oil Shale Land In Western States

Law360, New York (February 3, 2012, 4:38 PM EST) -- The Obama administration proposed Friday to reduce the total land open for oil shale activity in Utah, Wyoming and Colorado to about 462,000 acres, down from the nearly 2 million acres the Bush administration made available.

The proposal, issued by the Bureau of Land Management, would also cut the amount of Utah lands available for tar sands research and development from 431,000 acres to about 91,000 acres.
