White House Threatens Highway Bill Veto Over Pipeline

Law360, Los Angeles (April 17, 2012, 7:19 PM EDT) -- The White House said Tuesday it might veto a Republican-sponsored transportation funding bill making its way through the U.S. House of Representatives, arguing that the legislation would fast-track TransCanada Corp.'s Keystone XL pipeline without appropriate review of its potential environmental, health and economic impacts.

"This bill circumvents a long-standing and proven process for determining whether cross-border pipelines are in the national interest by mandating the permitting of the Keystone XL pipeline before a new route has been submitted and assessed," the statement of administration policy released...
