Judge Fries Challenge To Cleveland's Trans Fat Ban

Law360, New York (June 13, 2012, 6:47 PM EDT) -- Cleveland’s prohibition on trans fats was allowed to stand Monday after an Ohio judge knocked down a state Senate challenge to the ordinance, a key part of the city’s initiative to improve public health in one of the nation's most obese states.

Cuyahoga County Judge Nancy Russo upheld the city's attack on unsaturated fat, denying an Ohio Senate budget amendment that would forbid municipalities from instituting bans on the use and sale of food ingredients, including industrially produced trans fats.
