Louisiana-Pacific Can Seek Only $2M In Faulty Heater Case

Law360, New York (August 2, 2012, 6:12 PM EDT) -- A Tennessee federal judge on Thursday limited the damages wood products manufacturer Louisiana-Pacific Corp. can seek against The Teaford Co. Inc., which installed an allegedly faulty heating system that exploded at a Louisiana-Pacific plant, to $2.3 million, saying a contract partially shielded Teaford.

Louisiana-Pacific had sought up to $4.5 million, plus interest and other fees, for Teaford’s alleged breach of contract through its installation of “woefully deficient” controls for the thermal oil system and failure to comply with National Fire Protection Agency standards. But U.S. Magistrate...
