DOT Says Enbridge Can Restart Pipeline Closed By Oil Spill

Law360, New York (August 6, 2012, 6:36 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Transportation said Monday that Enbridge Inc. can restart a Wisconsin-based segment of its Lakehead pipeline system whose rupture last month caused a minor oil spill, after initiating a comprehensive safety improvement plan.

The DOT’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration issued a consent agreement after Calgary, Canada-based Enbridge agreed to implement a series of safety provisions for the pipeline segment — known as Line 14 — that will also apply to the entire 1,900-mile Lakeland pipeline.
