Suspended Pa. Supreme Court Judge Loses Mistrial Bid

Law360, New York (February 5, 2013, 5:31 PM EST) -- Suspended Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin lost a bid for mistrial in the corruption case against her Tuesday, when a judge ruled that the false testimony prosecutors had elicited from a witness amounted to a mistake, not misconduct.

Judge Lester G. Nauhaus of the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas denied Melvin’s motion for mistrial due to misconduct, but provided the jury with corrective instructions on testimony that Lisa Sasinoski, a former law clerk for Justice Melvin, gave Friday.
