Glenmark Sinks GSK Malaria Drug Patent In UK Court

Law360, New York (February 7, 2013, 3:34 PM EST) -- Indian drugmaker Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd. on Thursday said that it is rolling out its generic version of GlaxoSmithKline PLC’s anti-malarial drug Malarone in the U.K., after a British high court found GSK’s patent for the drug to be obvious and therefore invalid.

“Judgment has today been handed down in the case [which] involved the revocation of Glaxo’s patent for its anti-malarial product Malarone,” Glenmark said in a statement. “Following proceedings in the high court, Mr. Justice [Richard] Arnold revoked Glaxo’s patent.”
