Surprise Twist For Patent Dispute Over Medical Devices

Law360 (February 24, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- In an unusual twist, Inverness Medical Innovations Inc. has agreed to purchase ACON Laboratories’ key medical diagnostic business for $175 million, putting an end to the long-simmering patent infringement battle initiated by the medical device maker almost three years ago.

Inverness announced the deal on Friday, marking one of the rare times that a patent dispute has been resolved by the plaintiff agreeing to acquire the defendant’s crucial business.
