Spokane Diocese Reaches Deals With Insurers

Law360, New York (July 7, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- As the drawn-out Roman Catholic Diocese of Spokane bankruptcy case heads into mediation, the diocese’s leader announced Thursday that agreements had been reached with two more insurance carriers on payments to help settle claims of sexual abuse, boosting the total amount to $19.5 million.

But that amount comes nowhere near the more than $80 million the diocese owes to cover the claims, and with the ownership of parishes and their assets still an unresolved issue, it remains unclear where the rest of the funds to pay...
