Dairyland Power Cooperative on Friday agreed to pay nearly $156 million to settle the federal government's claims that the Wisconsin utility had released large amounts of harmful emissions and ignored Clean Air Act regulations at some of its facilities.

A federal judge on Tuesday stayed discovery so that settlement discussions may continue between the Sierra Club and a Wisconsin power transmission company that allegedly exceeded emissions standards for carbon monoxide and other pollutants.
