Semiconductor and wireless communications firm Broadcom Corp. on Thursday agreed to a partial settlement with rival Emulex Corp. in their dispute over patents for high-speed broadband technology, with Emulex agreeing to pay $58 million in release and license fees for use of three Broadcom patents.

Emulex Corp. said Thursday that it had been found partially liable for infringement in a dispute with Broadcom Corp. over patents for high-speed broadband technology, but that the jury deadlocked on four of the six patents-in-suit.

Broadcom Corp. told a California federal jury Wednesday that it's seeking $5 million in damages over Emulex Corp.'s use of computer chips in its products that allegedly infringe six Broadcom patents covering high-speed broadband communication technology.
