Sara Lee Corp. reached a $1.4 million settlement Monday with a group of production workers at a North Carolina factory who had sued the company a decade ago, claiming it hadn't paid them for the time they spent changing into and out of protective gear.

A North Carolina federal judge on Monday conditionally certified a class of more than 2,000 current and former Sara Lee Corp. hourly workers who say the company violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by failing to pay them for time spent donning and doffing uniforms.
