The Tennessee federal judge overseeing Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC's copyright lawsuit against several karaoke distributors ruled Wednesday that Sony may recover only one award of statutory damages per work, regardless of whether the companies distributed the allegedly infringing recordings through multiple brands.

A Tennessee federal judge on Monday refused to dismiss Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC's claims that JS Karaoke LLC and BottomLineSources.com Inc. sold unlicensed karaoke recordings of six songs for which the music publisher did not register copyrights until after filing suit.
