A Florida federal judge on Thursday denied Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Co.'s bid to arbitrate a group of shareholders' securities fraud and breach of contract suit claiming the insurer underpaid when it bought out the group's stake in the company.

A group of former investors in Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Co. who won a $31.7 million judgment in a derivative action against the company are appealing a district court's refusal to certify a shareholder class action in addition to the derivative suit, while Southern Farm is appealing the judgment.
