After being accused of a series of violations of the Clean Air Act at five of its natural gas compressor sites in northeast Utah, QEP Field Services Co. on Wednesday agreed to a $4 million settlement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

A Utah federal judge ruled Wednesday that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has standing to bring Clean Air Act claims against five Questar Gas Management Co. natural gas facilities located on Indian land, and that the plants warrant regulation.

A federal judge has thrown a wrench into the U.S. government’s lawsuit alleging Questar Gas Management Co. violated the Clean Air Act, deeming it too soon to toss Questar’s claim that regulators failed to consider emissions controls at natural gas compressor facilities and wrongly labeled them "major sources" warranting CAA regulation.
