The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection on Wednesday failed to revive a case seeking payment from Carnegie Mellon University, CBS Corp. and Exxon Mobil Corp. for the cleanup of hazardous waste from a western Pennsylvania landfill.

Beazer East Inc. has agreed to reimburse the commonwealth of Pennsylvania for nearly $2 million of the more than $3.7 million the state says it spent on cleaning up hazardous contamination at an old landfill in western Pennsylvania.
