The Sixth Circuit affirmed an Ohio federal court's ruling in favor of Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals Inc., saying a woman's claims that the company failed to warn of the stroke risks of the company's Ortho Evra birth control patch are preempted by federal regulations.

Johnson & Johnson unit Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical Inc. has dodged the last remaining claims in multidistrict litigation over the alleged blood-clotting risks posed by the Ortho Evra birth control patch, as an Ohio federal judge found the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark Bartlett ruling preempts design defect claims over the drug.
