A California federal judge on Wednesday dismissed a motion to certify a nationwide class in a suit accusing Hewlett-Packard Co. of selling defective printers, saying a recent Ninth Circuit ruling bars national classes from suing under California consumer protection laws.

HP Fails To Shred Printer Defect Class Action
A California federal judge on Wednesday preserved a proposed class action accusing Hewlett-Packard Co. of falsely marketing a printer as being faster than it is, saying the plaintiff had plausibly inferred HP knew about an alleged defect in the product.
