Holding that a long-term contract for drillship use may constitute an actionable offer to sell patented technology, a federal judge has allowed Transocean Offshore Deepwater Drilling Inc. to amend its allegations that Stena Drilling Ltd.’s drillship under construction for use in the Gulf of Mexico infringes numerous patents.

In the wake of a district court dismissal in May, Transocean Offshore Deepwater Drilling Inc. has renewed its allegations that drillships built by Stena Drilling Ltd. infringe numerous patents related to oil well exploration.
