An Alabama federal judge declined Friday to certify a putative class of former DHL Express employees suing the company for laying them off without sufficient notice, saying proposed class definition was too broad and vague to stand up in court.

An Alabama federal judge on Tuesday refused to dismiss a proposed class action alleging that DHL Express (USA) Inc. laid off employees without sufficient notice, rejecting arguments that because the plaintiffs worked for a contractor, DHL was not actually their employer.
