Marvell Technology Group Ltd. asked a Pennsylvania federal judge Monday to dramatically reduce $1.2 billion in damages awarded to Carnegie Mellon University in a patent infringement dispute, arguing that the university was not entitled to damages incurred before it sued in 2009.

Carnegie Mellon University sought to build upon its $1.2 billion victory over Marvell Technology Group Ltd. in a patent infringement dispute Monday, asking a Pennsylvania federal judge for treble damages against the company as well as imposition of $321.8 million in prejudgment interest.
