American Airlines Inc. says a brokerage firm can't hold it liable for damages incurred in the 9/11 terrorist attacks because federal regulations supersede state law claims over aviation safety issues, according to a New York federal court filing docketed Tuesday.

Cantor Can't Seek Damages For 9/11 Employee Deaths
A federal judge has rejected Cantor Fitzgerald's damages calculations in a suit over the recovery of losses from the 9/11 attacks, claiming that the brokerage firm can't hold American Airlines Inc. responsible for economic damages associated with its employees' deaths.
