National Western Agrees To Pay $21M In RICO Suit
National Western Life Insurance Co. on Tuesday agreed to a $21 million settlement that resolves a Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act class action alleging it fraudulently marketed costly and poorly performing deferred annuities to the elderly.

National Western Can Record Class' Calls In RICO Suit
A federal magistrate judge in California ruled Thursday that National Western Life Insurance Co. may obtain recordings of phone calls from potential class members to the class administrator in a lawsuit alleging the insurer fraudulently marketed deferred annuities to the elderly.
