A Pennsylvania federal judge was asked Friday to approve a $6.25 million settlement agreement to end class action claims accusing GMAC Mortgage LLC of orchestrating a kickback scheme with mortgage reinsurers in violation of the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act.

A Pennsylvania judge stayed a putative class action against GMAC Mortgage LLC on Wednesday, saying an upcoming U.S. Supreme Court case could determine whether the plaintiffs could sue without having been damaged by an alleged kickbacks scheme between GMAC and mortgage reinsurers.
