The Natural Resources Defense Council on Monday asked a Tennessee federal judge to allow three corporate defendants to exit a suit that also targets a Tennessee city and county over groundwater contamination stemming from a landfill, saying they had reached a settlement.

A federal judge has again kept alive a suit from the Natural Resources Defense Council and homeowners near Dickson, Tenn., seeking to compel the city and three companies that own industrial facilities to clean up contamination from an area landfill.
