Bluebeat Inc. on Friday agreed to pay recording companies including Capitol Records LLC and Virgin Records America Inc. about $950,000 to end a suit in California claiming it illegally sold songs to consumers.

A federal judge has held that BlueBeat.com is liable for copyright infringement for reproducing thousands of songs and offering them for 25 cents per track or for free without getting authorization from recording companies.
