Family Dollar Stores Inc. has reached a preliminary $14 million settlement with a class of 1,700 store managers who claim the retail giant failed to pay overtime wages, an attorney for the plaintiffs said Tuesday in New York federal court.

A New York federal judge on Tuesday certified a class of 1,560 store managers who allege that Family Dollar Stores Inc. required them to work extensive overtime and did not pay overtime wages.
