Michigan Consolidated Gas Co. jumped into Ford Motor Co.'s suit against the U.S. over two contaminated sites Thursday, challenging a provision in the proposed $10.8 million settlement that it argued would improperly bar its own claims against the federal government.

Ford Motor Co. said on Friday that it had reached consent decrees with the federal government under which the U.S. will pay the automaker $10.8 million to settle a suit over two contaminated sites in Dearborn, Mich.
