A Texas federal court held Wednesday that Davis Operating Co.'s delay in reporting an oil spill to St. Paul Surplus Lines Insurance Co. barred coverage of cleanup costs, refusing to apply an Oklahoma rule that excuses reporting delays if insurers aren't prejudiced.

St. Paul Tries To Evade Texas Oil Spill Costs
St. Paul Surplus Lines Insurance Co. sued Davis Gulf Coast Inc. on Monday, claiming it should not foot the bill for cleanup costs resulting from a Texas pipe leak that allegedly spilled crude oil into a federal wildlife refuge.
