The U.S. Food and Drug Administration asked the D.C. Circuit on Friday to review a decision in favor of death row prisoners who sued the agency in order to halt the importation of an unapproved drug used to carry out executions.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration sought to convince a Washington federal judge Thursday that a group of death row prisoners lacks standing to ask the agency to stop allowing the importation of unapproved sodium thiopental, which is used to help carry out executions.
