Lockheed Martin quietly announced a tentative $5 million settlement Wednesday resolving False Claims Act and environmental allegations from the U.S. Department of Justice and whistleblowers that it mishandled hazardous materials at a uranium enrichment facility and submitted false or misleading claims for cleanup reimbursement.

Lockheed Martin Corp. asked a Kentucky federal court Friday for sanctions in a False Claims Act suit accusing it of contractual violations and false statements regarding environmental services at a uranium enrichment plant, saying the federal government had wrongly sprung a new fraud claim years into litigation.
