A Pennsylvania federal judge on Tuesday refused to grant class certification in a case accusing Ford Motor Co. of trying to cover up a defective rear axle in its Windstar minivans, ruling that the four proposed classes didn't encompass the plaintiff's home state.

A federal judge has refused to strike down class allegations in a suit that accuses Ford Motor Co. of trying to cover up a defective rear axle in its Windstar minivans, but agreed to trim a few claims from the case.
