Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. and Riceland Foods Inc. reached a partial settlement on Friday regarding the Arkansas farmers cooperative's claims it should be insured in nearly 170 lawsuits over rice supplies allegedly contaminated by genetically modified crops.

While an Arkansas federal judge said Wednesday that Liberty Mutual Insurance has no duty to defend Riceland Foods Inc. in one lawsuit over rice supplies contaminated by genetically modified crops, she refused to rule similarly on more than 170 other complaints.
