Best Buy Co. Inc. has agreed to pay $4.5 million to settle a consumer class action alleging the company placed unsolicited automated phone calls regarding its customer rewards program in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, according to a Monday filing in Washington federal court.

The Ninth Circuit on Wednesday revived a consumer class action alleging that a series of automated phone calls placed by Best Buy Stores LP regarding its customer rewards program were not purely informational and constituted illegal solicitations.
