Vivendi SA has agreed to pay $775 million to Liberty Media Corp. to end allegations the French media company hid its financial woes to inflate its stock ahead of a deal to buy Liberty's stake in USA Networks Inc., nearly four years after a jury awarded Liberty €765 million.

Vivendi Universal SA failed to persuade a New York federal judge Tuesday to set aside a €765 million ($1.03 billion) verdict to Liberty Media Corp. or obtain a new trial in a row accusing it of using its inflated stock to strike a deal to buy Liberty's stake in USA Networks Inc.
